Slow pace of probe into cycling fixing at SAG Games causes annoyance

The investigation into alleged fixing on the part of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka at the South Asian Games held in Nepal is said to be progressing at snail’s pace causing annoyance in some quarters.

The Sports Ministry is accusing the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of dragging their feet in the probe.

After the exposure of the slow progress by the Sunday Observer the SIU had redirected the case again.

Director General of Sports Amal Edirisooriya confirmed the slow progress saying that the SIU has requested the Sports Ministry to produce more information regarding the fixing allegation as soon as possible.

“The SIU will give a judgment whether fixing was carried out or not in a few days time. If the SIU need any further evidence it will be provided,” said Edirisuriya.

Meanwhile the Cycling Federation has said that they are happy that the investigations have begun and justice will prevail.

“We are accused of wrong-doing in one event last year. We have submitted our explanation on this allegation,” said an official of the Federation.
