FR filed by a Buddhist monk survived in Aranthalawa Massacre fixed for support

A Fundamental Rights petition filed by a Buddhist monk who survived the Aranthalawa Bhikkhu Massacre in 1987 was today fixed for support by the Supreme Court.

The petitioner Ven. Andaulpatha Buddhasara Thera who sustained critical injuries is seeking an order to prosecute any living terrorist involved in the massacre.

When the petition came up before the Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justice Murdu Fernando and Justice S. Thurairaja fixed the petition for support on November 12.

Senior State Counsel Awanthi Perera appearing for the Attorney General sought further time to present respondents’ stance regarding the petition. The respondents were directed to file limited objections on or before September 30.

The petitioner is also seeking a compensation of Rs. 20 million from the state.

The petitioner has named Acting IGP, State Intelligence Director and Attorney General as respondents.
